Through Any Window

Riley Masterson has moved to the vibrant city of Greenbrier, SC, anxious to escape the chaos that has overwhelmed her life. Questioned in a murder in Alabama, she has spent eighteen months under suspicion by a sheriff’s office unable to make an arrest.

But things in gentrifying Greenbrier are not as they seem. Her cousin has an ulterior motive for inviting Riley into her home, and pieces of Riley’s past shadow her. As she struggles to forge a new life, forces are gathering in the tension-plagued neighborhood where glitzy new homes rise alongside crumbling mill houses, and everyone, it seems, is able to peer into a neighbor’s window.

When murder explodes, someone unexpected is caught in the crossfire. Detectives are left to ponder: Are the deaths personal or the result of rich and poor living in such close proximity? And will Riley take the blame as someone so meticulously planned?

Praise for Through Any Window

If you like a mystery that will make you think, Through Any Window is a good choice. The novel starts with the crime and then leads the reader through the backstories, relationships, and motives of a collection of characters who certainly could be the murderer. The backdrop of the story is the conflict between those who have gentrified the neighborhood and those who have been residents for decades, including the local homeless shelter. The long hot southern summer and the rape of a young woman escalate the tension and tempers reach a boiling point. I thought the author did a great job of keeping me guessing and turning the pages. I read this book in record time! The social issues discussed, the element of mental illness, and the morally gray areas of crime all contributed to a thinking person’s novel. Beckie Burnham, By the Book

What a page-turner! Believable and multilayered characters—some dastardly, some conflicted, while others emerge with real moral strength. Highly recommend! Victoria Chance, My Neighbor's Voice

Wow! I could not stop reading this book. Deb’s experience with the homeless gave real depth to this tale of revenge and madness. Final twist was a total surprise. Amazon reviewer

Another great page turner! The storyline keeps you guessing until the final page. Interesting characters with dynamic back stories push the plot forward. But the homeless community and struggles with gentrification add an uncommon twist to the book that makes you think beyond just these characters. Definitely worth the read! Amazon reviewer

... (A)n intriguing mystery that also invites us to think about the impact gentrification and homelessness can have on a community. The characters feel so familiar that we easily join them not only as they navigate the twists and turns of their suspenseful exploits, but also as they confront the biases and misconceptions that can exist when we don’t really know and understand one another.
